The name "Easter" is never mentioned in the original Scriptures. However, one English translation of the Bible does use the word. The King James Version (KJV) chose to translate Acts 12:4 like this:
"And when he (Herod the King) had apprehended him (Peter), he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people."
The book of acts was orginally written in the Greek language by the Christian Gentile and physician, Luke. The Greek word that the KJV translates as "Easter" is most certainly not the name "Easter", it is actually the word "Pascha", which means "Passover"-and this is how all accurate translations show it. For example the New King James Version says,
"So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover."
It was during an annual Passover celebration that Jesus was killed at Jerusalem. Passover was an annual Jewish religious celebration instituted by God (Leviticus23:5). It dates from the time of Moses when God delivered the Israelites from bondage in Israel and spared their first-borns when all first borns in Egypt died(Exodus 12:11f; Numbers 9:2f; Deuteronomy 16:1f; 2 Kings 23:21f).
Where did "Easter" Get Its Name?
The name "Easter is highly pagan in orgin. On this, all scholars agree. This name is never used in the original Scriputres, nor is it ever associated biblically with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For these reasons we prefer to use the term "Resurrection Sunday" rather than "Easter" when referring to the annual Christian remembrance of Christ's resurrection.
The egg was a sacred symbol among the Babylonians. They belieived in an old fable about an egg of wondrous size which was supposed to have fallen from Heaven into the Euphrates River. The Easter Bunny is well known as a sexual symbol of fertility for pagan worshippers.
"Easter" is simply one of the names of the ultimate pagan goddess-a woman who mightily deceived the world and whose religion has caused untold suffering and misery. "Easter" is clearly an enemy of Christianity, and her son Tammuz was an anti-christ a false messiah that deceived millions.
If you are a Christian, it is not difficult to discern the bizarre deception and confusion that Satan has successfully orchestrated. For example, notice the embarrassing irony in this probably well-menat tradition:
On the day commemorating Chris's resurrection, Americans roll decorated eggs on the White House lawn and pretend the Easter rabbit hid them.
For centuries satan watched with twisted delight, as he seduced millions into worshipping people and other created things, instead of the true Creator. Through the millennia, humankind has been easily seduced into participating in every type of perversion. The seductive symbols of the pagan mustery religion that satan inspired were incorporated into people's everyday lives, even to this day-continuing to obscure the truth of God on this spiritually dark planet. Often this happens because we willingly let it happen. Selfishly and foolishly "all we like sheep have gone astray (Isaiah 53:6).
Would it not be better witness to the world if Christians had never attempted to "Christianize" pagan celebrations-adopting the pagan name "Easter" in remembrance of Christ? At the very least, Jesus has been obscured by painted eggs and bunnies. Attention is shifted away from spiritual truth and toweard materialisn (symbolic products, clithing, candies, and food). Stores merchandise the of Easter (not "Resurrection Sunday") and sell goods that have nothing to do with Christ's death and resurrection.
We naively use symbols and practices that inknowingly perpetuate ancient anti-Christ traditions-symbolic customs followed by the same religious cults that inspired the destruction of great numbers of Christians and Jews.
And the devil laughs at us.
But Glory be to God because of the righteousness of Christ, because He paid the price for our Salvation, our Healing, and our Prosperity, because His Blood we are free from the burden of sin, because there is Power in the Blood. Oh precious is that flow that makes us white as snow. No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus. So we praise Him for taking the burdens and yokes of all mankind. We honor Him because He rose on the third day, was seen by more that 5,000 and was witnessed ascending into the heavens, we adore Him because He is seated on the right hand of the Father, and is our Advocate and we glorify Him because He is coming again.
